　青空に太陽が眩し輝く真夏の海。目の前で崩れる小波。何を感じたのか、煽りながらの体制で太陽を背にして波を撮ってみた。見たこともない美しい波が映っていた。この波との出逢いがキッカケとなり、以後没頭するように海へ通い続けています。「今日は天気が良いし海は美しそうだ」と浮かれた気持ちで海に向かえば、期待を簡単に打ち砕くぶ厚い雲が沖に広がっている。「そろそろ終わろうかな...」真冬の海の冷たさに心が折れ、切り上げようとした直後「なんだコレは...」と驚く見事な波と出会えたり。どう波と向き合い、そのエネルギーを受けてどう立ち振る舞うか。波は僕にいろいろなメッセージを伝えてくれるよう感じます。

　エネルギー溢れた太陽の光が波を彩る。それはまるで散りばめられた宝石のように煌びやか。対してどんよりと不機嫌な雲が広がる日。雨がポツン、ポツンと海面に降り落ちる。その情景は果てしなく広がる砂漠の大地のよう。訪れるたびに世界が変わる。今はどんな姿をしているんだろう。この瞬間の波はどんな魅力を持っているんだろう。そんなことを想像すると居ても立っても居られない焦燥感にかられます。

　僕が初めて波と出会ったときと同じ高揚感がこの作品群には詰まっています。ぜひ手にとって感じて欲しいです。

Midsummer. Small waves crumbling before my eyes. I took a shot, almost aimlessly, with the sun at my back. On the sea was a wave more beautiful than anything I had ever seen. That was the moment it all began. Since then, I haven’t stopped going to the sea.

“The weather is perfect; the sea must be beautiful today.” But as I head out with high spirits, thick clouds hide the sun. Then, in the biting cold of midwinter, just as I’m about to give up and go home, a magnificent wave appears—leaving me in awe. "What is this?" I wonder. It feels as though the waves are constantly sending me messages.

Light, overflowing with energy, colours the water. The waves sparkle like scattered jewels. On other days, the sky is heavy and overcast. Raindrops fall onto the surface. The scenery shifts, resembling a vast, endless desert. The world changes every time I visit. What does the sea look like right now? What kind of beauty is waiting there? Just imagining it fills me with a restless urgency.

This collection is filled with the same exhilaration I felt when I first encountered the waves. I truly hope you take this book in your hands and feel it for yourself.
